A DNA database is a collection of information which makes sequence data available to the research community to enhance reproducibility and allow for new discoveries by comparing data sets. This database stores raw sequencing data from high-throughput sequencing platforms. This database will provide valuable information for molecular studies of biodiversity and facilitating long term records of samples. However, the needs of the research community are rapidly increasing and this requires high-quality genetic resources. However, there are no comprehensive lists of DNA banks and genetic resources repositories in Pakistan.
In this project, we are providing a newly available web feature developed and maintained by Fungal Biology and Systematic Research Laboratory that is helping to compile the first comprehensive DNA sequence database for Macrofungi in Pakistan for future reference data. Our new tool will provide information on diverse groups of Macrofungi and enables rapid searching of the sequences for local collections. A precise description of taxa, their photographs and DNA sequences of published specimens are available for public, however, the DNA sequences of unpublished taxa are not provided on open access and can be provided on demand.
